Terms of Service for Anchor

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Anchor (the "App"), provided by an independent developer ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms.

1. The Service

Anchor is a reading and language-learning tool that provides in-context translation, vocabulary tracking with spaced repetition, and cross-device sync. Some features are available for free with daily limits; a paid subscription ("Anchor Pro") removes personal usage limits and unlocks additional features such as syntax breakdown.

2. Accounts

You must provide a valid email address to create an account. You are responsible for keeping access to your email secure, since sign-in codes are sent there. You must not share your account with others in a way that circumvents subscription limits.

3. Subscriptions

Billing. Paid subscriptions are billed and managed by our payment processors:

• LemonSqueezy (Merchant of Record) for purchases made via direct download on Mac.
• Apple (App Store) for purchases made on iPad or the Mac App Store.

Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through the payment processor used for your purchase (LemonSqueezy customer portal, or your device's App Store subscription settings).

Free trials. If a free trial is offered, you will be charged automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel before it does.

4. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful purpose.
• Attempt to bypass usage limits, paywalls, or authentication mechanisms.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the App's source code beyond what is permitted by applicable law.
• Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the App at a scale beyond normal individual use.

5. Content You Submit

Text you select for translation, and vocabulary/highlight data you save, remains yours. By using the App, you grant us the limited right to process this content (including sending it to our translation provider) solely to provide the Service to you, as described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Intellectual Property

The App, its design, and its underlying software are owned by us and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our trademarks, logos, or branding.

7. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Machine-generated translations may contain errors and should not be relied upon for professional, medical, legal, or safety-critical purposes.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Taiwan (Republic of China), without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory local consumer protection law provides otherwise.
